Balance in Form and Function

Yin-Yang is the representation of equilibrium and harmony found in nature. The inspiration for the design came from this ancient Chinese philosophy about the importance of balance. In a more physical sense, another form that comes to mind when thinking of balance is a rocking chair. Both of these figures come together in Equilibrium.

Equilibrium is a pair of identical curvilinear rocking chairs that when put together forms a coffee table which captures the essence of the Yin-Yang symbol. It is a multi functional piece that is ideal for residential settings as well as hotels, resorts, spas, and waiting rooms.

Balance in Material

A good material balances aesthetics, function, and environmental responsibility. Therefore, for this design a material from the LG HI-MACS Eden collection was chosen. Rather than using two contrasting colors, the Wallflower color was used throughout because of its neutral tone. This contributed to the sense of harmony and balance.

About Myself

I believe that everything was and is designed. As a designer I feel a calling to draw inspiration from and point to something greater, a calling to design for a greater and the greatest good. I intend to always design thoughtfully, balancing what is most important.
Thank you,
Timothy M. Norris, freshman Arizona State University, SALA

I'm technically supposed to cheer for my own school, but I can honestly say this is my favorite piece in the contest, and in my opinion, the most clever, practical, and well thought out solution. I mean, I would actually pay for 4 of these just so I could do the table-chair transform thing. I definitely wasn't doing work this good when I was a freshman. Keep it up, Tim.

Nicely done, fun form and cool versatility. Love the page where all your chairs are stacked. I hope you don't mind, but I hear a set calling my name in lime green! (does LG have that color?)
