In thematically designing for this competition I wanted the concept of balance to be manifested in as many ways as possible. I explored the theme of balance as it applies to form, color, and use. With a brief glance at the table, one will notice that this design was heavily influenced by Taiji. More commonly known as the ying and the yang I drew the majority of my inspiration from this symbol. I was intrigued by how this symbol embodied the contrasting qualities within reality and experience.

As a result a product was created that relied heavily on the combination of antithetical themes and elements. When these themes and elements are combined they provide a framework for recognizing the complex interconnectedness of all things. Just as light provides context for darkness. The contrasting colors of white and black in the table provide each other with proper context. The apparent fluidity of the tabletop provides a context for the stability of the base; therefore, like nature creating an interconnected existence of conflicting forces.

This is the most magnificent piece of work that I have ever seen. Everything about it is fantastic. I love the detailing of the base of the table. It would be worth the extra effort in cleaning just to have something so beautiful in my home or business. What more can I say, your a creative genius.

The concept for the top of the table is nice, and well balanced. The base on the other hand... All I can think about is all the material needed for that, and the added cost of construction and DUSTING! Oh dusting all those little surfaces. But the top is very nice and interesting.
