My goal was to design an appealing and functional alternative to the chair desk combinations found on the market. Desk chairs are two forms balancing on one base. The design takes full advantage of the LG Hi Mac Spectrum Surfaces strength and the thermoforming process. LG Surfaces are the ideal material choice for work surfaces, providing a durable and non-porous surface for everyday use.

The shelf under the seat provides a location to store books and personal belongings, and the large desk surface has compartments to hold items such as pens, beverages, cell phones, and books. Beneath the work surface is a foot rest to improve seated posture and provide added comfort.

I love the form and composition of this design. The only thing I worry about is the seat's weight are going to be concentrated at the two points at the folded corner. The stress applied to the two small turning point will result in bending and most likely to snap. Perhaps the problem could be solved if a tension rod is added to the seat and the writing surface. Good job.

Kathryn Assad's design is very appealing from an aestethic and functional standpoint. Ergonomically it lends itself to the learning process by emitting a free and flowing form. It's terrific.
