The versatility of solid surface material lends itself to exploration of ideas that, until now, might not
have been feasible. The "schism" chair utilizes the moldability of solid surfacing, its good strength-to-weight ratio, and vibrant colors to produce a visually striking design. The seat and back of this unique chair seem to "float" in front of the monolithic base. In truth, they are supported by a narrow "buttress", providing structure as well as illusionary effect. The flowing lines of the molded legs and back echo traditional furniture details while the sleek "buttress" and base suggest a very modern aesthetic. The "channel" running along the midline is recessed to reduce pressure on the spine, as well as providing a structural "rib" for support. The taller dining chair portrays a modern elegance, while the stackable task chair provides a stylish alternative to the everyday task chair.
